District 1 Fire "Rescue" Call on 06-09-12

Fire District 1 was recently dispatched to an unusual “Rescue” call on June 9th  in the Nejecho Beach section of Township to remove 8 year old Nugget, a Yorker Terrier who had become trapped in a groundhog hole in her backyard. Nugget was trying to keep her yard safe when she followed the groundhog into its burrow but was unable to back out. The Fire Department using shovels and old fashioned elbow grease were able to dig ahead of the dog and then have it gently inch its way forward to awaiting rescuers. Shown in the photos below are the rescue efforts of several Firefighters, Nugget and her grateful owner, Colleen.
